The vineyards of Tenuta San Giorgio climb the ridgeline of the hills, from 190 to 440 meters above sea level, in a landscape shaped by the ancient Pliocene sea and the volcanic activity of Monte Amiata.

Vigna Crete
Vigna Crete sits at the lowest point of the estate, rooted in calcareous–tuffaceous soils that shape its distinctive character. Planted in 2001 at 250 meters above sea level, it spans 1.2 hectares and is entirely encircled by woodland – a natural barrier that helps create a microclimate particularly favorable to vine growing.
With a planting density of 4,500 vines per hectare, the fruit ripens in perfect balance, developing a subtle dusting – a hallmark of the site – that translates into wines of finesse: fresh, elegant, and lifted by vibrant acidity.
Year planted: 2001
Surface area: 1.2 ha
Elevation: 250 m a.s.l.
Planting density: 4,500 vines/ha
Features: Calcareous–tuffaceous soils

Vigna Frana
The red soils of Vigna Frana, rich in oxidized minerals, are key to the depth and structure found in its wines. Located between 410 and 420 meters above sea level, the vineyard follows a steep incline that encourages natural drainage and drives the roots deep into the earth in search of nourishment.
Planted in 1989, it spans one hectare with a deliberately low density of 3,000 vines per hectare – a choice that supports slow, balanced ripening. The grapes grown here are intensely concentrated, with thick skins and high levels of aroma and phenolic compounds.
Year planted: 1989
Surface area: 1 ha
Elevation: 410–420 m a.s.l.
Planting density: 3,000 vines/ha
Features: Red soils, steep slope

Vigna Grande
The red soils of Vigna Grande are even more intense than those of Vigna Frana – richer in iron oxides and strewn with stones and rock fragments. Lean and well-drained, the soil forces the vines to work harder, leading to greater concentration and complexity in the fruit.
The slope here is extreme, enhancing drainage and optimizing exposure to sunlight – both key to achieving even, balanced ripening. Planted in 1999 at 410–420 meters above sea level, the vineyard covers 1.3 hectares with a planting density ranging from 4,300 to 4,500 vines per hectare – a proportion that strikes the ideal balance between vigor and yield.
Year planted: 1999
Surface area: 1.3 ha
Elevation: 410–420 m a.s.l.
Planting density: 4,300–4,500 vines/ha
Features: Red soils, abundant rock, extreme slope
